September Reads! Yes, I know it's almost November September Reads! Yes, I know it's almost November—we’ve already established that I'm in over my head in all aspects of my life. September was a glorious book month. I only read six books, but they all needed to be savored. Plus, I needed some much-needed sleep to help with the hefty sleep deficit I've been operating under. I discovered a new-to-me author - @authorchelseacurto - who I love. I read one ARC by one of my all-time favorites, @stephaniearcherauthor (I'm sorry I'm so late reviewing ‘The Wingman’ by the way 😬). And I realized that I find reading sentences written as if a character is speaking with their mouth full can make me giggle uncontrollably—I’m looking at you @beckamack.author (It's uncanny, I can hear them as I read—how are you are so good at that?).
The Wingman’ is a delightfully steamy, laugh-out The Wingman’ is a delightfully steamy, laugh-out-loud hockey romance that will captivate you from the first chapter. The chemistry between Hayden and Darcy is undeniable, making it impossible not to root for them on their journey toward happily ever after. Their relatable struggles add depth to the story, while the slow-burn romance is filled with tantalizing tension that will keep you turning pages well past your bedtime. Each moment between Hayden and Darcy radiates emotional authenticity, allowing you to fall head over heels for both characters as you watch their love story unfold. I absolutely adored this book—and the entire series, for that matter—which solidifies Stephanie Archer’s place on my auto-buy list. I can’t wait to see what @stephaniearcherauthor has in store for us next! P.S. — What are your thoughts on garden gnomes? Do you find them creepy, or do you see them as whimsical and adorable? Perhaps you don’t have an opinion at all. No matter where you fall on the garden-gnome-love spectrum, one thing’s for sure: by the end of this book, you will know exactly how you feel about garden gnomes. (😳 What?!) Trust me, just read the book—Daniel the Gnome is hilariously endearing! (and not the least bit creepy) 🤣 ✨ A big thank you to @lbcreads and, of course, @stephaniearcherauthor for giving me the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review! ✨ **Note:** ‘The Wingman’ is the third book in the ‘Vancouver Storm’ series and can be read as a standalone novel. However, I recommend reading the series in order. Not only are the other books phenomenal, but they really set the stage for Hayden and Darcy’s story. Here I go again—doing my monthly wrap-up mid-mon Here I go again—doing my monthly wrap-up mid-month. 😕 Let's celebrate small victories: Yay! I did it! 🎉 But Hilarye, I see that you are reading voraciously. Where are all your reviews and posts? Well, I hoped you wouldn't notice, but I’m glad you asked! *Shockingly* reviewing books isn't my only gig. I've got a day job—which I love—that is killing me. I've been working 50+ hour weeks since last October, & quite frankly, I’m burned out. Nope, I'm past burnout—I'm…deep-fried. I’m also a perfectionist with fairly severe ADHD. Those two things mean that—because of who I am as a person—I am incapable of half-assing anything. I want every graphic & mini-review I post here—especially the full-length reviews on my blog—to be spectacular. And here we are. ADHD + perfectionitis + burnout = the pressure to make every graphic, post & review *just right* is overwhelming. I just don't have the mental bandwidth after a 10-hour workday to sit down, focus, & write a coherent book review. Let alone one that's intelligent, thoughtful, witty, & a tad funny. So, instead, I‘m stuck in the frustrating state of, “If you’re just going to half-ass it, why do it at all.” 🫠 But, I see a glimmer of hope on the horizon. I'm trying to hire someone to help me at work, setting boundaries with my boss, and improving my work/life balance. Hopefully, I’ll be back soon with my overly descriptive, witty, & lightly humourous reviews. But for now, I’ll keep reading, posting when I can, & remind myself that it’s okay to half-ass things sometimes. But what truly makes The Hunted Heir shine is the characters. Verena is a strong, complex heroine, desperate to find freedom and protect those she cares about. Dacre is a brooding, passionate hero, struggling to reconcile the loyalty he should have to his father’s rebellion and his intense feelings for Verena.
